I read the H.P. Lovecraft story 'Beyond the Wall of Sleep' and I got hit by this mental image, just had to paint it before it disappeared. The story involves a man using a machine to interact with a glowing, infinite cosmic superbeing that has possessed another man.
I challenged myself to try and get as close to a traditional painting style as possible rather than just use all the fancy digital techniques that I've used as a crutch for years. It felt good to use broad gestures and create a composition that flowed well.

I used Kyle Webster's Gouache Brush pack for this image. They are brilliantly crafted brushes and I can't recommend them enough.
